The Lapa 111 Project from MixArq architecture studio entered the restricted batch of finalists for the prestigious National prize of Urban renewal in 2014, being nominated for 3 categories: Residential Use, Energy and Restoration Certification.
What is this prestigious award for architecture about?
The National prize of Urban renewal (PNRU) is an annual award established by Vida Imobiliária and Promevi, and also has the support of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia (as recognized entity in the area of Urban Renewal). This is an initiative that honors urban renewal architecture projects that create value (in their different valences) for the community where they are. In this context, the PNRU wishes to recognize excellence of companies or entities that star in this type of projects. MixArq – Arquitetura e Design receives, thereby, a prestigious recognition of a highly skilled labor and that gave the historic neighbourhood of Lapa an admittedly positive impact, creating added value for the community where it is inserted.
Getting this far is even more important if you consider that there were 48 urban renewal projects coming from 18 different locations in Portugal.
What is the scope of the architecture project Lapa 111?
The rehabilitation project Lapa 111, authored by architect Clara Couceiro (who heads the team MixArq), intended primarily to add architectural value to the three buildings that are part of the project and the area in which they are inserted, the beautiful historic district of Lapa.
Given the rich heritage of these buildings (in the urban renewal area), its main facades were kept, as well as in the interior, the existing stairs, ceilings and walls, which had decorative elements of great historical value. The intervention conducted by MixArq team had a concern for the preservation of all architectural and construction elements of value, providing the rooms with all the comfort and modernity.
The result is a work of architectural excellence that revitalizes this area of Lisbon.
